The richness of Basque traditions is reflected in the many local festivals organized throughout the year: pastorale en Soule, fêtes de Sare, Bayonne, and the famous masquerade. These events bring together all generations around folk dances, music, convivial meals and shows. Traditional Basque sports also take pride of place. On the one hand, Basque strength and its 10 spectacular disciplines (stone lifting, tug-of-war, wood sawing…); on the other, Basque pelota, played barehanded, with chistera or pala, in trinquets or on village pediments. Demonstrations are regularly offered to visitors, especially during the summer months.
