Nestling at the foot of the Rhune mountain, just a few kilometers from the Spanish border, this typical village of 2,500 inhabitants captivates visitors with its unspoilt charm, Labourdine-style houses, living traditions and breathtaking scenery. From our campsite in Sare, you can explore this jewel of the Basque Country on foot or by bike, discovering its craftsmen, its history and its emblematic sites.

Places to visit during your stay in Sare
Sare is full of treasures to visit. Whether on foot or by cogwheel train, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Basque coast and its fine sandy beaches (from San Sebastian on the Spanish side to Capbreton on the Landes side), and of the French and Spanish Pyrenees. You’ll also be able to see our local horse, the ” pottok” , as well as griffon vultures.
Not to be missed are the prehistoric caves, highlighted by a fascinating sound and light show. Thechurch of Saint-Martin, with its remarkable architecture, is another place steeped in history. The Ortillopitz Basque house, dating from the XVIIᵉ century, will immerse you in the local culture. For families, the Etxola wildlife park is a popular outing for children. The village is also home to the Musée du gâteau basque, a delicious gourmet stopover. For the more courageous, the mountains of Sare offer a wide choice of sporting activities in the Basque Country.
